UI Centre receives award

The Centre for Intellectual Property Protection and Commercialization (CIPPAC), University of Ibadan has received an award of recognition for its role in promoting patents and design rights in Nigeria

The award was given by the Patent and Design Registry, Commercial Law Department, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Abuja.

The Ministry recognised CIPPAC as the centre among all others in Nigeria with the highest number of patents and designs filing applications and certification.

CIPPAC had also been involved in IP awareness campaigns at both national and international levels.

The award presentation was part of the elaborate programmes held by the Ministry to commemorate the 2024 World Intellectual Property Week.

Meanwhile, the CIPPAC in collaboration with the UI School of Business, had celebrated the grand finale of the Intellectual Property Week on Friday, 26 April 2024, a day globally recognised as the World IP Day with a Symposium.

The theme of the symposium was “IP and SDGs: Building our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity.”

The topics of discussion included:

● The Economics of Intellectual Property (IP) by Prof. A.O. Adewuyi, Dean School of Business

● IP and SDGs: Building our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity by Dr. O.T Okareh, Director, CIPPAC

● IP and School of Business in the University of Ibadan by Phamarcist Chinedu Nwulia (UISB)

●The University of Ibadan – The Place of Creativity and Innovation by Dr. Opeyemi Sigbeku, CIPPAC/UISB

● Challenges of IP and Commercialization by Mrs. Adenike Oyarekua, CIPPAC/ UISB

●IP and UI- Connecting the Dots was a general discussion by all the participants.
