Bangladesh Envoy Advocates Human Development, Women’s Empowerment, Responsible AI for Global Peace

The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, H.E. Miah Md. Mainul Kabir, has called for greater emphasis on human development, women’s empowerment and equitable governance of artificial intelligence as essential pillars for achieving lasting peace in a fractured world.
Kabir made the call while serving as Special Guest of Honour at an international conference organised by the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abuja, on the theme: “Peace, Security and the Human Condition: Navigating Conflict, Displacement, Gender Issues and Artificial Intelligence in a Fractured World.”
Addressing participants, the High Commissioner reflected on Bangladesh’s history of sacrifice in the pursuit of justice and democracy, while highlighting the country’s contributions to United Nations peacekeeping operations and humanitarian assistance to displaced Rohingya populations.
He stressed that peace should not be viewed merely as the absence of conflict, arguing that sustainable peace must be anchored on human development, inclusion and equal opportunities.
The Bangladeshi envoy also underscored the importance of empowering women and ensuring that the rapid development and application of artificial intelligence benefit humanity equitably, particularly in a world increasingly confronted by conflicts, displacement and social inequalities.
Following the conference, Kabir paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Vice Chancellor of NOUN, Prof. Shehu Usman Adamu, where both sides explored opportunities for strengthening academic collaboration between open universities in Bangladesh and Nigeria.
The discussions focused on expanding institutional cooperation and creating platforms for knowledge exchange and partnerships between higher education institutions in the two countries.
