Nigeria and Brazil Strengthen Ties with Landmark Defence Agreement

Abuja, June 24, 2025 – Nigeria and Brazil has taken a remarkable step towards deepening bilateral relations, as the Nigerian Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, signed a Defence Agreement with the Government of Brazil during the second session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM).

The agreement aims to strengthen defence cooperation between the two nations, promoting peace and stability in the region.
The agreement covers collaboration in agricultural development and food security, promotion of trade and investment between Nigeria and Brazil, cooperation in scientific research and technological development, joint efforts in renewable energy development and sustainable practices and promotion of cultural exchange programs between the two nations.

The Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM), serves as a platform for both countries to explore new investment opportunities, strengthen strategic business partnerships, and enhance cooperation in various sectors.

This agreement marks a significant milestone in the growing relationship between Nigeria and Brazil, with both nations committed to mutual development and progress.

Addressing stakeholders at the event which held at Abuja, Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar said, “This agreement is a testament to the strong ties between Nigeria and Brazil. We look forward to working together to promote peace, stability, and development in our regions.”

In response, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin of Brazil stated, “We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with Nigeria, and we believe this agreement will open up new opportunities for cooperation and growth between our nations.”
