Abuja, July 3, 2026 — The Federal Government has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic explosion at the Ras Laffan Industrial Complex in the State of Qatar, which claimed 13 lives and left 66 others injured.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, conveyed Nigeria’s heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Qatar, especially the families of those who lost loved ones in the incident.

The minister also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured, assuring Qatar of Nigeria’s solidarity during the difficult period.
“The thoughts and prayers of the Government and people of Nigeria are with the Government and people of the State of Qatar at this difficult time,” the statement said.

The condolence message was signed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.

On June 21, 2026, a powerful explosion at Qatar’s Barzan gas processing facility in Ras Laffan killed 13 workers and injured 66 others. Authorities said the blast resulted from a technical accident during plant restart after maintenance, ruling out sabotage. Qatar’s LNG exports were unaffected, while investigations into the incident continued.
