Nigeria Reaffirms Stronger Ties with Qatar as Ambassador Yakubu Presents Credentials to Amir

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the State of Qatar as the country’s new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Qatar, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, formally presented his Letters of Credence to the Amir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

The credential presentation ceremony, held at the Amiri Diwan in Doha on Thursday, featured full diplomatic honours, including the inspection of a Guard of Honour. Ambassador Yakubu was accompanied by senior officials of the Nigerian Embassy.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ambassador later held a private audience with the Amir, who welcomed him warmly and reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to deepening its longstanding bilateral relationship with Nigeria.

The Amir also recalled previous high-level diplomatic engagements between both countries and expressed his country’s readiness to expand cooperation.

During the meeting, Ambassador Yakubu conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Amir and the people of Qatar. He reiterated Nigeria’s resolve to strengthen the existing bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

The ambassador also extended Nigeria’s condolences to the Amir over the recent accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City and underscored the importance of enhancing collaboration in key sectors, including trade, investment, education, security and humanitarian affairs.
