The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening airport security enforcement and judicial processes through a high-level stakeholders’ engagement focused on improving arrest, prosecution, and judicial administration within Nigeria’s aviation environment.

The engagement, themed “Strengthening Arrest, Prosecution and Judicial Administration Within the Airport Environment,” brought together legal practitioners, security agencies, prosecutors, and other critical stakeholders to deliberate on strategies aimed at improving justice administration and regulatory enforcement across the nation’s airports.

Representing the Managing Director of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, the Director of Aviation Security Services, ACP Afegbai Albert Igbafe, emphasized the importance of effective law enforcement and stronger inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding airport infrastructure and sustaining public confidence in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

He noted that airport environments must continue to reflect order, discipline, safety, and strict compliance with aviation regulations, stressing that offences committed within airport facilities should never be treated lightly because of their potential implications for passenger confidence and national security.

According to him, FAAN remains committed to protecting passengers, airport workers, and all users of airport facilities, adding that stronger synergy among Aviation Security (AVSEC), the Nigeria Police Force, prosecutors, and other security stakeholders is essential to achieving this goal.

ACP Igbafe further called for enhanced enforcement mechanisms within airport environments to ensure compliance with aviation laws, safety standards, and security regulations.

In her opening remarks, the Director of Legal Services, Bridget Gold, described the engagement as timely and significant in addressing operational and legal challenges affecting airport administration.

She explained that the forum was designed to deepen stakeholders’ understanding of judicial administration processes within airport environments while clarifying the roles of security agencies, prosecutors, legal practitioners, and relevant institutions in the effective administration of justice.

Gold added that the engagement would further strengthen cooperation, coordination, and mutual understanding among stakeholders responsible for maintaining law, order, and security within Nigeria’s airports.

The event also featured technical presentations and interactive sessions led by legal experts, security agencies, prosecutors, and aviation stakeholders on improving arrest procedures, prosecution processes, and judicial coordination within the aviation sector.
