Works Ministry Sports Club Ends 2026 Sports Week with Thanksgiving, Humanitarian Outreach

The Sports Club of the Federal Ministry of Works has concluded its 2026 Sports Week with a thanksgiving service and humanitarian outreach, while commending the Minister of Works, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, CON, the Minister of State for Works, Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq., and the Ministry’s management for their continued support of staff sporting activities.
The thanksgiving session, held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing Fellowship, Mabushi, Abuja, featured praise, worship and prayers for the continued protection and success of members of the Sports Club.
Speaking at the event, the Ministry’s Sports Manager, Mr. Fakande Ayorinde Adeniyi, expressed gratitude to God for His protection and guidance throughout the club’s sporting engagements and national assignments.
Adeniyi said the achievements recorded by the Sports Club were made possible through divine intervention, unity among members and the support of the Ministry’s leadership.
He recalled that at the beginning of his tenure as Sports Manager, he had prayed for divine guidance and success in carrying out his responsibilities, noting that the progress recorded by the club had strengthened his conviction in the importance of faith and collective commitment.
The Sports Manager particularly appreciated Ministers Umahi and Goronyo, as well as the Ministry’s management, for creating an enabling environment for staff to participate in sports.
According to him, the support provided by the Ministry had contributed significantly to the development and improved performance of its athletes.
Adeniyi also recalled challenges encountered during recent national sporting assignments, including journeys to various parts of the country for the Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA). He noted that despite safety concerns associated with some of the trips, members of the team returned safely.
He said the experience reinforced his appreciation for God’s protection and pledged that the Sports Club would continue working towards greater achievements in future competitions.
The Sports Manager also commended the Sports Club’s Fellowship Pastor, Mr. John Chukwuemeka, for his consistent prayers, spiritual guidance and concern for the welfare of members.
In his remarks, Pastor Chukwuemeka prayed for continued protection, progress and success for the Sports Club, its members and the leadership of the Ministry. He also urged members to remain united, steadfast in faith and committed to good conduct.
Special prayers were offered for the Ministry’s contingent to the 2026 Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA) in Kano, with members seeking divine protection and improved medal-winning performances.
As part of the 2026 Sports Week activities, members of the Sports Club also embarked on a humanitarian outreach to a Motherless Babies’ Home and a home for elderly persons.
During the visits, the team presented gifts to the beneficiaries and spent time interacting with them, sharing moments of joy, encouragement and goodwill.
The Sports Club expressed optimism that with continued support from the Ministry’s leadership and God’s grace, it would achieve greater success at forthcoming national and international sporting competitions.
