West Africa Economic Summit: A Call to Action for Regional Prosperity

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has urged West African ambassadors to support the upcoming West Africa Economic Summit (WAES) in Abuja. The summit, scheduled for June 20-21, 2025, aims to promote economic integration, trade, and investment in the region.

WAES seeks to foster economic cooperation among West African states, regardless of regional affiliations.

The summit will bring together Heads of State, Ministers, private sector leaders, development partners, youth innovators, and entrepreneurs.

WAES will focus on addressing barriers to intra-regional trade, infrastructure fragmentation, and inconsistent regulatory environments.

The Nigerian Minister has requested the ambassadors’ support in:

  • Encouraging Heads of State, Ministers, and business leaders to attend the summit.
  • Engaging national business communities, chambers of commerce, and startup ecosystems.
  • Encouraging youth networks and innovation clusters to participate in the Innovation and Enterprise Expo.
  • Providing insights and opinions to refine the summit’s agenda and program.

Ambassador Tuggar emphasized the importance of regional unity in achieving economic prosperity and global competitiveness. He called on the ambassadors to act as WAES ambassadors, championing the vision within their respective missions.
