Nigeria Takes Giant Leap in Drone Innovation as NCAA Certifies Starwing Aviation

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has certified Starwing Aviation Limited, as a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) operator, marking a significant milestone in the country’s aviation industry. This development is expected to position Nigeria as a hub for drone innovation in Africa.

The NCAA presented the RPAS Operations Certificate (ROC) to Starwing Aviation Limited on June 3, 2025, after a rigorous certification process.

Speaking during the presentation of the certificate, the Director-General, Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo, emphasized the importance of maintaining the certificate and compliance with safety standards.

The Director, Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, Engr. Godwin Balang, outlined the thorough certification process, highlighting the importance of security and bird strike prevention.

The Managing Director, Starwing Aviation Limited, Mr. Demuren Kunmi expressed appreciation to the NCAA and assured that Starwing Aviation will demonstrate compliance at every stage of their operations, paving the way for Nigeria’s drone innovation hub.


The certification is expected to boost Nigeria’s drone industry, creating opportunities for innovation and growth. With this development, Nigeria is poised to become a leader in drone operations in Africa, and Starwing Aviation is set to play a key role in this emerging industry.
