UI to Partner US-based Consortium to develop an International Remote Workforce

A team from a US-based consortium, Outsource Mart Limited has pledged to collaborate with the management of the University of Ibadan to encourage students of the Institution to join a remote workforce.

The team which was led by Mr. Robert Onyejekwe, an alumnus of the Department of Petroleum Engineering made the pledge during a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Prof Kayode Oyebode Adebowale, FAS, mni, in his office.

Mr. Onyejekwe explained that the collaboration will provide opportunities to empower UI students to build capacity and capability to work remotely anywhere in the global space from their base in Nigeria to support US companies and business operations.

He noted that remote working has been made popular as part of the new normal by the outbreak of COVID-19.

The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), Prof. Oluyemisi A. Bamgbose, SAN expressed the appreciation of the management to the worthy ambassadors of the University of Ibadan who deemed it fit to consider their Alma Mater for such an initiative.

She affirmed that one of the advantages of COVID-19 is the opportunity for multi-tasking and this will be well featured in a remote work environment.

She encouraged all stakeholders from the University to interface actively in order to have a successful take-off of the programme. She commended all the people that made this collaboration possible and expressed her belief in the success of the initiative.

Other members of the visiting team included Dr. Fredrick Igbinedion, also an alumnus of the Department of Petroleum Engineering and Mr. Peter Oyewole. Other members who accompanied the team from the University of Ibadan Alumni Association were Prof. Elsie O. Adewoye, President, UIAA Worldwide; Prof. Olufemi Adegbesan, Chair, UI Chapter; Prof. Abiodun A. Olapade, Public Relations Officer and Dr. Sarah A. Akintola, Assistant Secretary.
