FCC Boss Says Anti-Doping Centre Board Will Strengthen Nigeria’s Global Sporting Reputation

The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, has described the inauguration of the Technical Board of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre (NADC) as a major step towards enhancing integrity, transparency and global competitiveness in Nigerian sports.
QIn a statement issued on Friday, Omidiran commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for inaugurating the board following the enactment of the National Anti-Doping Act, 2025, saying the move demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to protecting the credibility of sports and complying with international standards under the World Anti-Doping Code.
She said the establishment of the centre represents a strategic institutional reform that aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda by promoting accountability, fairness and excellence across the country’s sporting ecosystem.
According to Omidiran, who also serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, the anti-doping board will help safeguard clean athletes, uphold the integrity of competitions and restore confidence in Nigeria’s sporting system at both national and international levels.
She noted that sports remain a vital instrument for national unity, youth development and economic growth, stressing that maintaining the integrity of competitions is essential to sustaining public trust and improving Nigeria’s global sporting reputation.
The FCC chairman reaffirmed the commission’s support for initiatives aimed at strengthening public institutions, promoting transparency and advancing national development, expressing confidence that the board would foster a culture of integrity and fair competition.
Omidiran also commended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the National Assembly, the National Sports Commission and other stakeholders for their roles in establishing the statutory anti-doping institution.
She congratulated the chairman and members of the Technical Board on their appointments and urged them to carry out their responsibilities with professionalism, independence and fairness.
According to her, the board’s success will not only protect the future of Nigerian athletes but also strengthen the country’s standing within the global sporting community.
