Nigeria has reiterated its strong commitment to regional cooperation and collective security as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and stabilise the Lake Chad Basin.

The Honourable Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, made this known during a recent high-level meeting of Defence Ministers from Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF). The meeting, held in N’Djamena, was convened under the auspices of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.

General Musa emphasised the need for sustained collaboration among member states to dismantle terrorist networks and enhance stability across the Lake Chad Basin. He noted that collective action remains critical in addressing the complex and evolving security challenges confronting the region.

The strategic gathering brought together Defence Ministers and representatives from Chad, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Benin, alongside senior military officers, intelligence chiefs, and key stakeholders in regional security operations.

Deliberations at the meeting focused on assessing the operational effectiveness of the MNJTF and reviewing reports presented by Chiefs of Defence Staff and heads of intelligence and security agencies. Discussions also addressed critical challenges such as force deployment, funding limitations, and the shifting threat landscape in the region.

General Musa commended the government and people of Chad for hosting the meeting and acknowledged the country’s leadership role within the MNJTF framework. Participating ministers also expressed appreciation to the President of Chad and Chairman of the LCBC Summit for his continued support toward strengthening regional peace and security.

The meeting is expected to further enhance coordination and reinforce joint strategies aimed at tackling terrorism and cross-border threats in the Lake Chad Basin.
