FGN Mandates Nigerian Shippers Council To Audit Seaport Terminals

The Federal Government of Nigeria has mandated the Nigerian Shippers Council to carry out a comprehensive audit of all seaport terminals in Nigeria, to ascertain their efficiency and competitiveness.
 
Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo gave the charge at the opening of a three day Regional Summit on “Unfair Shipping Charges on National Economies of West African States”, holding in Abuja.
 
Represented by the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, the Vice President said government has collaborated with relevant stakeholders to address issues related to high cost of doing business in Nigeria.
 
Professor Osinbajo said the Federal Government is aware of the high freight rates and arbitrary imposition of charges on transportation of goods through the ports in the Sub-region.
 
Speaking at the event, Secretary-General of Global Shippers Forum, Mr. James Ogam, said the unfair charges on cargoes are across all economies, thus needs to be addressed.
 
The three days summit which is organized by the Nigerian Shippers Council in collaboration with the Union of African Shippers Council, is aimed at chatting a common front for the well-being of the Maritime Industry in Nigeria.
