FGN Launches National Workplace Policy on HIV/AIDS

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in its unyielding dedication to protecting the rights and dignity of people living with HIV/ AIDS at workplace has launched the National Workplace Policy on HIV & AIDS.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barr. Nkeiruka C. Onyejeocha launched the programme on Thursday in Abuja, as part of activities to commemorate the 2023 World Aids Day, with the theme “Let Communities Lead” organised by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in partnership with the International Labour Organisation

In her keynote address, the Minister said the launch of the National Workplace Policy on HIV/AIDS, is a robust
framework designed to fortify communities and in still within the
workplaces a culture of inclusivity, compassion, and collective
responsibility.

Speaking on the theme: “Let
Communities Lead” Onyejeocha disclosed that it encapsulates the essence of collective endeavours. Adding that it emphasizes the crucial role that leadership and resilience of our diverse communities play in our joint efforts to address the challenges posed by HIV/AIDS.

In his address, the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr. Chris Amadi expressed that the launch of the National Workplace Policy on HIV/AIDS is a significant step torwards collective commitment to creating supportive and
inclusive work environments.

Amadi noted that the World AIDS Day provides a poignant opportunity to reflect on the progress made in the fight against HIV/AIDS, to remember those who have been affected, and to renew dedication to building a healthier and more resilient future.

He noted that the workplace policy
embodies commitment to creating workplaces that are not just spaces
of employment but sanctuaries of understanding, compassion, and non-
discrimination.

The Permanent Secretary task all to strive and create workplaces where
individuals living with HIV/AIDS are not just protected but are also
empowered to lead fulfilling lives, free from stigma and discrimination

The Director General, Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association NECA, Mr Adewale Oyerinde, represented by Femi Paul, said the launch of the National Workplace Policy on HIV/AIDS is a commendable initiative, showcasing a collective determination to foster a healthier and more inclusive work environment

He assured that NECA is committed to working with the government and other stakeholders to promote policies that support the growth of the private sector and the development of a skilled and productive workforce.

“We will continue to encourage our members to comply with all relevant regulations and to support initiatives that help to promote a healthier and more inclusive work environment void of stigmatization.” He added
