APBPI Advises Students To Shun Drug Abuse

  

The Advocacy for Positive Behavioural Patterns Initiative (APBPI), has advised students to shun drug abuse.

The Project coordinator of the group, Mrs. Lilian Omoyemi Mann said this during a sensitization campaign against drug abuse to commemorate this year’s International Day against drugs abuse and illicit trafficking, at the Government Secondary School (GSS), Nyanya, Abuja, The theme for the program was “health for justice; Justice for health”.

According to the coordinator, “As a students currently in school, you need concentration and when you used drugs you can not concentrate on your academic”, adding “the only thing that can drive you to achieve what ever you want to achieve in life is to follow true with your passion. Because the only way you can rule the world is by reading. And for you to be great Nigeria and in life, you must do personal development.

Speaking further, Mann advised the students to have a mind of their own and not to allowed friends to influence them into doing what they are not willing to do. Saying “get high on grade and not on drugs” and shun the used of drugs.

In his remarks, The Program Director, Campaign Team of APBPI, Mr. Banidele Mann explained that most drugs are not as there are legal drugs and illegal drugs.

He advised the students to avoid illegal substances and for medical experts when the are sick to prescribe the right drug.He explained that some substances like tobacco, alcohol and cannabis should be avoided if the students wanted to succeed and retain that success.

Mrs Lilian Mann who spoke on the topic Emotional Intelligence (EI), charged the students not to live their lives depending on drugs, adding that, “taking drugs consistently, has a huge impact on one’s physical body and it also distorts the mental capacity of a person.

A documentary film on the dangers of drug abuse was played and discussed during an interactive session with the students. The exposed various dangers and the huge damage drug abuse can cause to the organs and different parts of the body system.

In her remark, the principal of GSS Nyanya Mrs. Blessing Ezedu said, the sensitization will help the students to be aware of the negative effect of drugs and advised the students to stay out of drugs and not to associate or make friends with drug addicts.

Some of the students who participated in the sensitisation campaign, Master Victor Enemali and Miss Aisha Bulama both of SS2, said that, they have learned and becomes aware that taking of illicit drugs is bad and also drugs affects the brain, as it doesn’t make one to be a great person in life.

They therefore, commended the Advocacy for Positive Behavioural Patterns Initiative APBPI, for coming to create awareness for students of GSS Nyanya that taking drugs is not good for one’s health.

APBPI, held the progranme in partnership with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime UNODC, for students in commemoration of 2019, International Day against drugs Abuse and illicit trafficking.
