The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed strong concern over recent misinformation and misleading reports regarding supposed targeted killings of Christians in the country. The government acknowledges security challenges but emphasizes that these incidents are not driven by religious bias nor targeted against any particular religious group.

According to the Ministry, the majority of incidents related to insurgency and banditry in northern Nigeria are not targeted at followers of a particular faith or religion. Any narrative suggesting religious persecution is deemed erroneous and misleading.

Nigeria’s government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has taken significant steps to address security concerns, including deploying security forces, intelligence gathering, and community engagement initiatives. The military has recorded substantial gains in curtailing bandit and insurgent activities.

The Ministry urges the international community to exercise caution and verify information before drawing conclusions or making statements that could exacerbate tensions within Nigeria. It calls on stakeholders, including the media and foreign partners, to refrain from spreading unverified claims that could undermine national unity and stability.

Nigeria remains committed to preserving its heritage of religious tolerance and coexistence, welcoming constructive dialogue and support from the international community in addressing its security challenges.
