Nigeria’s para-badminton star, Mariam Eniola Bolaji, has added another international medal to her growing collection after winning silver at the 2026 British & Irish Para-Badminton International in Ireland.

Bolaji impressed throughout the tournament with a series of outstanding performances, demonstrating the resilience, determination and consistency that have established her among the world’s leading para-badminton athletes.

The Nigerian reached the women’s singles SL3 final, where she engaged Japan’s Shino Kawai in a fiercely contested encounter. Despite a spirited display, Bolaji narrowly lost 21-18, 23-21 in a thrilling match that went down to the wire.

Her silver-medal finish further cements Nigeria’s rising profile in global para-badminton and underscores Bolaji’s status as one of Africa’s most accomplished athletes in the sport. The performance also serves as inspiration for aspiring para-athletes across the country.

Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, congratulated Bolaji on her remarkable achievement, praising her discipline, resilience and commitment to excellence.
Olopade also commended the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Bolaji’s coaches, support team, sponsors and other stakeholders for their contributions to her continued success.

He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to providing Nigerian athletes with the support and resources needed to excel on both national and international stages.
