Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has confirmed his participation in the forthcoming Diplomatic, Security, Trade, and Investment International Conference in Abuja, where he will be honoured with the DICAN International Award for Statesmanship and Global Peace.
The conference, organised by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria in partnership with the Centre for Communications Development and Diplomacy in Africa, is scheduled to hold on May 20, 2026, at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
The summit is themed: “Information Warfare (FIMI): Strengthening Global Security, Trade, and Investment Through Collaborative Truth: Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media.”
Dr. Jonathan is expected to address participants on global peace, security, and the growing threat posed by Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), fake news, and disinformation.
According to organisers, the former president accepted the honour based on the credibility and global relevance of the platform. The award is in recognition of his contributions to democracy, peacebuilding, and good governance across Africa and beyond.
Chairman of DICAN, Idehai Frederick, described Jonathan’s participation as a major boost to the international conference.
“President Goodluck Jonathan’s acceptance of this award and his decision to address the assembly underscores the immense credibility of this platform. His enduring legacy as a champion of Nigerian, African and global democracy makes him the definitive voice to speak on safeguarding global peace against the tide of disinformation,” he said.
The conference is expected to attract over 100 diplomatic missions and key stakeholders from government, intelligence, media, trade, and civil society sectors.
Among dignitaries expected at the event are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Ahmed, as well as ambassadors of the United States, China, Spain, and the European Union.
Other notable speakers expected to deliver institutional messages include Ndudi Elumelu, Henry Ifeanyi Mbadiwe, and Nonye Ayeni.
Frederick called on global stakeholders to treat the challenge of information warfare as a serious international concern, warning that disinformation poses a direct threat to democratic institutions, global stability, and economic growth.
The summit will also launch a global campaign against FIMI, fake news, and disinformation, while the event will conclude with an awards ceremony recognising outstanding institutions and individuals for contributions to national development, including Air Peace.
