Nigeria Extends Condolences to Vietnam Over Typhoon Kajiki Devastation

The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed its deepest condolences and solidarity with the Government and people of Vietnam following the devastating impact of Typhoon Kajiki. The typhoon resulted in a landslide in Central Vietnam, causing significant loss of life, widespread displacement, and severe damage to properties and public infrastructure.
The Nigerian government commends the swift and concerted efforts of the Vietnamese authorities in responding to the disaster, undertaking evacuations, and providing immediate relief to affected citizens.
“We are confident in the resilience and strength of the Vietnamese people, as well as their capacity to overcome this adversity and rebuild their communities. Our thoughts and prayers are with the nation during this difficult time”, MFA Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa said in statement today.
As at the time of publication, the devastation recorded over three deaths and 13 injuries reported, nearly 7,000 homes damaged, widespread flooding, and power outages impacting central and northern regions, including the capital, Hanoi
Nigeria and Vietnam have a growing bilateral relationship, with trade volume between the two countries surpassing $1 billion in 2024. Both countries have expressed interest in deepening cooperation in areas such as Agriculture as Vietnam’s expertise in agricultural development could contribute to addressing Nigeria’s food security challenges.
Both countries see potential for collaboration in the digital economy, with Vietnam’s advanced digital transformation and Nigeria’s growing tech industry.
Nigeria and Vietnam are exploring opportunities for trade and investment, particularly in the cashew sector, with plans to boost local processing and transform the value chain.
