TRAGEDY : Senator Owan Enoh Condemns Kidnapping of Journalists En Route to AFCON Qualifier

Senator John Owan Enoh, Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Sports Development, has strongly condemned the kidnapping of journalists who were on their way to cover the 2025 AFCON qualifier between the Super Eagles and Libya’s Mediterranean Knights in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The unfortunate incident occurred in Isseke community, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, where suspected hoodlums ambushed the journalists [1).

Fortunately, seven of the kidnapped journalists have been rescued by the Joint Security Force in Anambra State. However, three are still being held captive, and sadly, one has lost their life. Senator Owan Enoh expressed gratitude to the Joint Security Force for their swift intervention and assured that efforts are ongoing to secure the safe release of the remaining captives.

The Minister also offered condolences to the family of the deceased journalist, colleagues, and the entire sports community, praying for the fortitude to bear the loss. This incident highlights the risks journalists face in Nigeria and the need for increased security measures to protect them.
