The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has extended warm congratulations to Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on her conferment with the prestigious traditional title of “Soniyanko Nupe.”
In a press statement issued in Abuja on May 3, 2026, the Minister described the honour as both richly deserved and symbolic of the First Lady’s enduring contributions to humanitarian service and national development.
The title was bestowed by the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, in recognition of Senator Tinubu’s impactful leadership and unwavering commitment to social inclusion and support for vulnerable populations.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim noted that the First Lady’s interventions—particularly in assisting victims of insecurity, displacement, and natural disasters—have distinguished her as a compassionate and people-centred leader. She highlighted Tinubu’s timely support to communities affected by flooding and other emergencies, especially in Niger State, as a testament to her dedication to national service.
“Through her strategic initiatives and direct engagements, Her Excellency has empowered communities, strengthened family systems, and restored hope to millions of Nigerians,” the Minister stated, adding that the First Lady’s leadership continues to inspire confidence and unity across the country.
The Minister further linked the recognition to the forthcoming “Power of 10 Million Mega Empowerment and Rally,” themed “One Voice, One Movement, One Choice,” stressing that the honour reinforces the importance of unity and collective support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
She emphasized that such solidarity is crucial to consolidating the gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda, sustaining reforms, and advancing inclusive development for women, children, families, and other vulnerable groups.
Describing the title as more than ceremonial, the Minister said it represents a profound acknowledgment of service, compassion, and responsibility. She expressed optimism that the recognition would further motivate the First Lady to scale up her efforts in strengthening Nigeria’s social fabric.
The statement concluded with a celebration of the milestone, as the Ministry joined women, children, and families across Nigeria in honouring the First Lady’s achievements and continued service to humanity.
