TCN Begins Rehabilitation of Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV Transmission Line After Vandalism

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has commenced urgent rehabilitation of Towers J4 and N9 to N12 along the Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV double-circuit transmission line following recent acts of vandalism.
The rehabilitation works are aimed at restoring the integrity of the affected transmission infrastructure and ensuring the continued reliability of electricity transmission in the area.
During an inspection of the project site on Friday, September 25, 2026, the TCN Regional Manager, Port Harcourt Region, Engr. Nasir Bello, represented by the Assistant General Manager (AGM), Transmission, Dr. Ubani Raymond, said the inspection was conducted to monitor compliance with approved engineering specifications and facilitate immediate corrective measures where necessary.
Dr. Raymond said significant progress had been recorded, noting that the vandalised towers had been completely dismantled while their bases had been solidly recast in preparation for reconstruction.
He appealed to residents of Ikot Abasi to remain vigilant and support efforts to protect critical power infrastructure in their communities, particularly against criminal activities capable of disrupting electricity supply.
Also speaking during the inspection, the Head of Lines, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, Engr. Azuh Lucky, stressed the need for continuous monitoring of the rehabilitation works to ensure strict compliance with engineering standards and quality requirements.
Azuh commended TCN Management for engaging two contractors to accelerate execution of the project, noting that the approach would help reduce the time required to restore the affected transmission facilities.
However, he disclosed that the difficult terrain and persistent rainfall in the area had affected the pace of construction activities.
The Principal Manager, Uyo Work Centre, Engr. Eguaikhide Clement, also expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and commended the contractors for their commitment to the urgent rehabilitation of the vandalised towers.
He urged all stakeholders to sustain the momentum until the affected sections of the transmission line are fully restored.
TCN reiterated the importance of community vigilance and protection of transmission infrastructure, warning that vandalism of power facilities could undermine efforts to improve electricity supply and impose additional costs on the power sector.
