RMAFC Chairman Wins African Business Leadership Award for Fiscal Governance

The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, OFR, has been honoured with the prestigious 2026 African Business Leadership Award (ABLA) for Fiscal Governance and Revenue Accountability in recognition of his outstanding contributions to fiscal governance reforms and public finance management in Nigeria.
The honour was conferred during the 16th African Leadership Magazine Africa Summit held in London, where Dr. Shehu was celebrated for his leadership in strengthening fiscal transparency, revenue accountability and institutional reforms at the Commission.
According to a statement issued by the Head of Information and Public Relations at RMAFC, Maryam Umar Yusuf, the award acknowledges Dr. Shehu’s transformative leadership since assuming office as Chairman of the Commission.
Under his stewardship, RMAFC has pursued key reforms aimed at institutionalising fiscal transparency, enhancing revenue mobilisation and reinforcing its constitutional mandate of ensuring fairness and equity in the nation’s revenue allocation system. The Commission noted that these initiatives have positioned it as a critical institution in promoting sustainable fiscal governance and supporting Nigeria’s economic development.
The statement added that the continental recognition reflects growing appreciation of Dr. Shehu’s efforts to strengthen public finance institutions and promote sound fiscal policies aligned with global best practices.
It also described the award as recognition of his strategic leadership, intellectual capacity and commitment to integrity in public service, qualities that have earned him respect across government, the private sector and the African continent.
RMAFC congratulated its Chairman on the achievement, expressing confidence that the honour would further inspire the Commission’s ongoing drive to deepen fiscal reforms, strengthen public confidence and advance policies that promote equitable national development.
The Commission added that the award marks another milestone in Dr. Shehu’s distinguished public service career and would serve as motivation for greater contributions to Nigeria’s development and fiscal governance across Africa.
