TCN Commissions 60MVA Mobile Power Transformer to Boost Electricity Supply in Yobe

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commissioned a new 60MVA, 132/33kV Mobile Power Transformer at its Damaturu 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Yobe State, significantly enhancing power transmission capacity and electricity supply across the state.
The transformer was successfully commissioned at 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, increasing the substation’s transformation capacity from 120MVA to 180MVA.
According to TCN, the additional transformer will improve operational flexibility and grid reliability by providing redundancy during planned maintenance and unexpected outages. It will also enable the substation to accommodate rising electricity demand as economic and social activities continue to expand in the region.
With the increased capacity, more bulk electricity will now be available to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) for onward distribution to customers in Damaturu, Buni Yadi, Babangida, the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, and neighbouring communities.
The company said the project forms part of its ongoing infrastructure expansion programme funded through its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). The initiative is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s national transmission network, improving system reliability, and ensuring more efficient delivery of bulk electricity to distribution companies nationwide.
TCN reaffirmed its commitment to continuous investment in transmission infrastructure to support improved power supply, meet growing energy demand, and enhance the stability of the national grid.
