Power, Energy Correspondents Laments Loss of Cross River Energy Commissioner, Prince Eka

The Abuja Power and Energy Correspondents (APEC), has expressed deep shock and sadness over the reported death of the Cross River State Commissioner for Energy and Power, Hon. Prince Williams Eka.
Eka reportedly died in Abuja on Sunday, September 12, 2026, after allegedly collapsing and being rushed to a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement signed by its Secretary, Raphael Ekpang, APEC described the late commissioner as a distinguished public servant and passionate advocate for the development of Nigeria’s power and energy sector.
The association said his death represented a significant loss to the Government and people of Cross River State, as well as the wider energy community in Nigeria.
As Commissioner for Energy and Power, Eka was involved in efforts to advance Cross River State’s energy agenda and promote greater attention to electricity as a critical driver of economic growth, investment, employment and improved living standards.
APEC noted that his contributions to the sector earned him the respect of stakeholders, while his interactions with journalists demonstrated his appreciation of accurate information, public accountability and constructive media engagement in the development of the power sector.
The association said Eka’s responsibilities placed him at the centre of important conversations on energy development and the strengthening of Nigeria’s electricity value chain.
“APEC particularly mourns the loss of a public official whose responsibilities placed him at the centre of conversations on energy development and whose service contributed to the broader national discourse on the need to strengthen Nigeria’s electricity value chain,” the statement said.
The association extended its condolences to the Cross River State Government, the late commissioner’s colleagues, associates, friends and members of his immediate family.
APEC prayed for strength and fortitude for the family and other mourners as they come to terms with the loss.
“May the soul of Hon. Prince Eka rest in eternal peace,” the association said.
