The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, has praised the Nigeria National League (NNL), for delivering what he described as a landmark Super Four draw, while also acknowledging the growing impact of private sector investment on the league’s development.
Speaking at the event held in Lagos, Olopade lauded the NNL Board led by Mr. George Aluo for raising organizational standards and setting a new tone for professionalism in Nigeria’s second-tier football league. He noted that the quality of the draw signaled a positive shift in how football competitions are managed in the country.

According to him, the NNL continues to play a strategic role in Nigeria’s football ecosystem, bridging the gap between the top-flight Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and the grassroots Nationwide League One. He emphasized that the league remains vital for nurturing young talents and sustaining the pipeline for national teams.

Olopade expressed satisfaction with the seamless coordination of the event, describing it as one of the most impressive he has witnessed in the domestic football scene. He reiterated the Commission’s readiness to support initiatives that enhance the growth of the sport.

He also commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) under the leadership of Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau for providing the enabling framework that has allowed the league to thrive.

Highlighting the role of corporate partnerships, Olopade singled out Toptier Sports Management, led by Mrs. Chichi Nwoko, for its significant investment, noting that such contributions are already transforming the league’s outlook and boosting its commercial appeal.

With anticipation building, attention now shifts to Ikenne, Ogun State, where the NNL Super Four tournament will take place from May 4 to May 8, 2026, at the Remo Stars Stadium. The competition will feature four newly promoted NPFL teams — Doma United, Sporting Lagos, Inter Lagos, and Ranchers Bees — battling for a ₦10 million prize and the league title.

Stakeholders believe that the success of the draw has set the stage for an exciting and competitive tournament, with expectations high for a memorable football showcase.
