The Ochétoha K’Idoma Forum, a socio-cultural body of the Idoma people, has expressed profound appreciation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Benue State, where he addressed security challenges affecting the communities. The Forum commended the President’s understanding of the magnitude of the crisis and his commitment to addressing injustices endured by the people.
The group commended Presidential Directives to the security agencies to apprehend and prosecute perpetrators, acknowledging the lack of arrests over two decades.
The Forum suggested broad representation, including former governors, Senate Presidents, and respected socio-cultural organizations as the President’s recognition of Tiv and Idoma peoples were acknowledged, with emphasis on inclusive action for comprehensive healing.
However, the Forum expressed concern over the absence of the Och’Idoma from the speaking program and unexpected modification of the official program.
Critical issues affecting Idoma communities, including insecurity, displacement, infrastructure development needs, and cross-border security incidents were also raised as the group called for equitable representation and documentation as over 2,000 lives were lost in Agatu, Apa, and Otukpo communities.l
The Forum appealed to the Idoma people to maintain composure and constructive engagement, while urging the President to sustain commitment to justice and comprehensive inclusion. The Ochétoha K’Idoma Forum remains committed to advocating for peace, equity, and protection of all people, seeking fair and equitable engagement.
