NSC Renews Confidence in Super Falcons to Pick 2027 FIFA World Cup Ticket… Calls on team to stay focused ahead of tonight’s playoff against South Africa

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has renewed its confidence in the Nigeria Super Falcons to secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, charging the team to remain focused and go for victory in Thursday night’s crucial playoff against South Africa in Casablanca, Morocco.
The 10-time African champions suffered a narrow quarter-final defeat to Cameroon at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco but still have an opportunity to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup through the Inter-Confederation Playoff.
Director-General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, urged the players to quickly put the disappointment of their quarter-final defeat behind them and channel their energy towards the decisive encounter with South Africa.
Olopade described the Super Falcons as Africa’s biggest football brand and the pride of the continent, stressing that their defeat to Cameroon should not define the team.
“The Super Falcons remain Africa’s biggest football brand and the pride of the continent. Therefore, the rare loss to Cameroon should not define them because we know how good they are,” he said.
The NSC boss also reminded the players of the tremendous joy they have brought to Nigerians over the years, assuring them of the nation’s unwavering support ahead of the crucial encounter.
“The girls have brought us tremendous joy over the years and I want them to know that Nigerians are definitely behind them, more than ever before, even as they play this crucial game tonight,” Olopade added.
The Director-General further assured the team of the Federal Government’s full support and confidence in their ability to secure the 2027 Women’s World Cup ticket.
“Speaking the minds of Mallam Shehu Dikko, the Chairman of the NSC, I want to urge our girls that the Federal Government is fully behind them and will continue to do everything possible to ensure that they pick the World Cup ticket,” he stated.
The NSC therefore called on the Super Falcons to remain determined and focused as they face South Africa, assuring the team that the Federal Government and Nigerians remain firmly behind them.
