MOC, LOC Intensify Preparations for 2026 National Sports Festival in Enugu

The National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Enugu State Government are stepping up preparations for the 23rd National Sports Festival, tagged “Coal City Games, Enugu 2026,” with a comprehensive inspection of sports facilities and other key infrastructure scheduled to take place in the state.
The Main Organising Committee (MOC) delegation is expected to arrive in Enugu on August 25, 2026, ahead of the inspection exercise scheduled for August 26 and 27.
The exercise will assess the level of preparedness of competition and training venues, athletes’ accommodation, transportation and logistics, as well as other facilities and operational structures required for the successful hosting of the Games.
Officials of the MOC and Local Organising Committee (LOC) will also review ongoing preparations, identify areas requiring further attention and agree on measures to ensure that all outstanding works are completed within the stipulated timelines.
The Director General of the National Sports Commission and Chairman of the MOC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, will lead the NSC delegation during the inspection.
The inspection will further strengthen collaboration between the NSC and the Enugu State Government as they work towards ensuring that the Coal City Games meet the required standards for Nigeria’s premier multi-sport competition.
Meanwhile, the LOC is scheduled to unveil the official Coal City Games 2026 logo and mascot on August 28, 2026, marking another major milestone in preparations for the Festival.
The National Sports Commission expressed confidence that the combined efforts of the MOC, LOC and the Enugu State Government will ensure the successful delivery of the 23rd National Sports Festival and further promote Nigeria’s rich sporting heritage.
