Nigeria, European Union to Hold Crucial Senior Officials Meeting in Abuj

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that Nigeria and the European Union (EU) will hold a Senior Officials Meeting on July 1st and 2nd, 2025, in Abuja. This meeting aims to prepare for the upcoming Nigeria-EU Ministerial Meeting and explore areas of cooperation between the two parties.

Discussion will center on
cooperation on rultilateral, regional/ global issues and strengthening collaboration on global and regional challenges: enhancing peace and security initiatives, promoting good governance, and stability; addressing humanitarian crises and providing support to affected populations; ostering economic growth through increased trade and investment opportunities; mproving healthcare, education, and social protection services; promoting innovation, digitalization, and technological advancements; migration managing and related issues; and, energy, climate change, and green economy transition collaboration.

The Senior Officials Meeting will be co-chaired by Ambassador Janet Olisa, Director, Regions Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria;
co- chaired by Mr. Mathieu Briens, Deputy Managing Director for Africa Department, European External Action Service, European Union

The meeting underscores the deep, long-standing partnership between Nigeria and the European Union, built on mutual values, interests, and support for multilateralism and rule-based international order. The discussions are expected to strengthen their partnership and foster cooperation in key areas.
