Abuja, April 14, 2026 — The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has tasked Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS) Schedule Officers to uphold data integrity and strengthen monitoring and evaluation systems across the Scheme.
Nafiu gave the charge during the 2026 edition of the NYSC Planning, Research and Statistics Schedule Officers’ Workshop held in Abuja, stressing that accurate and timely data are essential for sound policy formulation and effective decision-making.
Represented by the Director of Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement, Chief Chinwendu Chukwu, the Director-General described the workshop as a strategic platform for reflection, knowledge exchange, and repositioning towards improved service delivery.
He emphasised the critical role of PRS officers, noting that they must be adequately equipped with the necessary skills and expertise to meet evolving operational demands. According to him, NYSC management remains committed to continuous capacity building through training and incentives to ensure optimal performance.
“As custodians of the Scheme’s records and archival materials at State Secretariats, PRS officers must safeguard these resources with a high sense of responsibility,” Nafiu said.
He further described the officers as the intellectual backbone of the Scheme, urging them to engage in research activities that would enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of NYSC operations.
Reaffirming management’s commitment, Nafiu pledged continued support for research development, improved inter-departmental collaboration, and the integration of PRS functions into the Scheme’s broader strategic framework.
Also speaking, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr Nura Umar, said the workshop aligns with the Director-General’s vision of building a resilient and performance-driven workforce.
He noted that the workshop, themed “Enhancing Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Skills for PRS Officers for Improved Service Delivery,” highlights the importance of effective programme tracking and evaluation in achieving operational excellence.
Umar encouraged participants to leverage the training to improve their performance, adding that subject-matter experts would deliver lectures aimed at strengthening their professional capacity.
The workshop attracted PRS Schedule Officers from the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters.
