Musa, Ojo, Dabiri-Erewa Reassure Nigerians in Angola on Security, Economic Recovery

ABUJA, September 1, 2026 — The Federal Government has reassured Nigerians living in Angola of its commitment to tackling insecurity, strengthening national security and sustaining the country’s economic recovery.
The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), gave the assurance during an engagement with members of the Nigerian community in Luanda, Angola, held on the sidelines of the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).
The meeting was coordinated by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, as part of efforts to deepen engagement between the Federal Government and Nigerians in the Diaspora.
Musa acknowledged the security challenges confronting Nigeria, noting that some were linked to instability in the Sahel region, with their effects extending across national borders.
He assured the Nigerians in Angola that the Federal Government was taking comprehensive measures to strengthen the nation’s borders and prevent security threats and incursions.
According to him, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to defeating security threats across the country, while efforts are ongoing to improve the manpower, equipment and operational capacity of the Armed Forces and other security agencies.
Also speaking, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, assured Nigerians that the country was on the path of sustained economic recovery.
“Nigeria is growing, the economy is growing and Nigeria is on the path of full recovery,” he said.
Responding to a request by the Nigerian community for the establishment of a Nigerian passport production centre in Angola, Tunji-Ojo said he would look into the proposal with a view to easing access to passport booklets and related services for Nigerians in the country.
Dabiri-Erewa, who coordinated the engagement, commended Nigerians in Angola for their contributions to Nigeria’s development and for projecting the positive image of the country abroad.
She assured the community that the Federal Government values the contributions, concerns and welfare of Nigerians in the Diaspora, stressing that their voices remain important in shaping policies and interventions affecting them.
She urged Nigerians in Angola to remain united, law-abiding and committed to contributing positively to the development of Nigeria and their host country.
Speaking on behalf of the Nigerian community, the Secretary of the Nigeria Community Association in Angola, Nnaemeka Francis Obi, commended the Federal Government for the engagement.
Obi, however, highlighted some of the challenges confronting Nigerians in Angola, particularly the difficulty of accessing passport and consular services.
He specifically called for the establishment of a Nigerian passport office in Angola and also raised concerns over healthcare challenges faced by Nigerians living in the country.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the Federal Government delegation to receive direct feedback from Nigerians in Angola and reaffirm its commitment to strengthening Diaspora engagement and addressing issues affecting the welfare of Nigerians abroad.
NiDCOM said the Federal Government, through relevant agencies, would continue to engage Nigerians across the globe and work towards responsive solutions to issues affecting their welfare and interests.
The Nigerian delegation to the AU summit was led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
