MIIA Opens Registration for Sixth Free Online Media Training for African Journalists

The Media Integrity Initiative Africa (MIIA) has opened registration for the sixth edition of its free quarterly online media training programme, aimed at strengthening the capacity of journalists and communication professionals across Africa.
Scheduled to hold virtually on Saturday, 15 August and Saturday, 22 August 2026, the two-day training will run from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (WAT) via Zoom.
According to the organisers, the initiative is part of MIIA’s ongoing commitment to developing ethical, innovative and future-ready media professionals capable of navigating the rapidly evolving media landscape.
The programme features four sessions to be facilitated by respected media experts and industry leaders.
On the first day, Tony Onyima will lead a session titled “Words That Divide: Media Stigmatisation and the Challenge of National Cohesion,” while Adeboye Ola will facilitate “Multimedia Storytelling 101.”
The second day will feature “Telling Human Interest Stories in Health Reporting,” to be delivered by Oluyinka Shokunbi, followed by “New Forms of Storytelling: What Matters?” to be facilitated by Azu Ishiekwene.
MIIA said participation is free but registration is compulsory. New participants are required to register through the designated online form, while returning participants from previous cohorts have a separate registration portal. Registration closes on Friday, 7 August 2026.
The initiative noted that its quarterly training programmes are designed to equip journalists, editors, broadcasters, public relations practitioners and other communication professionals with practical skills, ethical grounding and strategic insights needed to excel in today’s media ecosystem.
The Media Integrity Initiative Africa described itself as a professional training platform dedicated to nurturing a new generation of ethical, innovative and impact-driven African media professionals through free capacity-building programmes and collaborative learning opportunities.
