FAAN Launches ICAO NGAP Global Maiden Training to Build Future Aviation Workforce

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has inaugurated the maiden global edition of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP), programme, reaffirming its commitment to developing a highly skilled and future-ready aviation workforce.

The four-day training, holding from July 20 to 23, 2026, at the FAAN Training School, is aimed at strengthening workforce development, talent attraction, career progression and succession planning across the Authority’s critical operational and administrative departments.

Participants drawn from Airport Operations, Aviation Security (AVSEC), Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS), Safety, Human Resources, Finance, Engineering and other aviation-related units are expected to acquire knowledge and competencies that align with ICAO’s global vision of building a sustainable and competent aviation workforce.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on behalf of the Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Director of Special Duties, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, said the Authority remains committed to investing in human capital as a key pillar for operational excellence and long-term growth.

She observed that the aviation industry is evolving rapidly, making continuous learning and skills development essential for professionals to remain relevant and meet international standards. Orah urged participants to actively engage throughout the programme and apply the knowledge gained to improve service delivery across the Authority.

In her welcome address, the General Manager, Training and Human Resources Development, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Akinlade, described the programme as an important opportunity for participants to enhance their professional capacity while contributing to FAAN’s talent retention and succession planning initiatives.

She stressed that nurturing and retaining skilled professionals is vital to sustaining the Authority’s transformation agenda and maintaining high operational standards.

The ICAO NGAP Global Maiden Edition has brought together personnel from different directorates and operational units, creating a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange and leadership development.

The training will conclude on July 23 with interactive sessions facilitated by experienced aviation professionals and subject matter experts, reinforcing FAAN’s commitment to building a resilient workforce capable of supporting the long-term growth and sustainability of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
