ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Macs Foundation has commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for its bold and strategic initiatives aimed at transforming Nigeria’s economy, particularly in the agricultural sector. The Foundation made the commendation following Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima’s remarks during the Nigeria–Brazil Business Forum held in Abuja on Wednesday.
Speaking on behalf of the Foundation, its Executive Director, Mr. Avishigh Cephas, lauded the government for its commitment to economic revitalization through partnerships with global stakeholders, notably the Federative Republic of Brazil. Macs Foundation, which operates a robust grassroots network in agriculture, health, and the environment, emphasized that these policies are not only timely but also critical to restoring the livelihoods of displaced farmers, particularly in Northern Nigeria.
“We are encouraged by the government’s clear direction under President Tinubu and the sincere efforts to reposition Nigeria’s agricultural landscape. These initiatives speak directly to the needs of the rural poor, including farmers affected by conflict and displacement across the northern region,” Mr. Cephas stated.
Among the initiatives commended by Macs Foundation are:
1. The Nigeria–Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism – a platform designed to enhance economic collaboration across sectors like agriculture, clean energy, and trade.
2. The Green Imperative Initiative – a $1.1 billion program aimed at transferring Brazilian agricultural technologies to Nigeria, facilitating modern farming techniques and mechanization.
3. Development of Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones – which are expected to boost local food processing, reduce post-harvest losses, and create jobs for rural farmers.
4. Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan – leveraging gas and renewable sources to power agro-industrial zones and improve rural energy access.
5. Strengthened focus on skills development and research exchange – encouraging innovation and capacity building in agriculture and related industries.
According to the Foundation, these efforts will help displaced and underserved farmers regain productivity through improved access to technology, markets, training, and energy infrastructure. “For displaced farming communities in the North, these policies offer hope. They represent a shift from emergency aid to sustainable recovery and long-term resilience,” Mr. Cephas noted.
Macs Foundation also called for accelerated implementation of the outlined initiatives and encouraged state governments, especially in the North, to align their agricultural policies with the national framework for inclusive growth.
“We are ready to support government efforts through our grassroots network. Our agents are embedded in communities and can bridge the gap between policy and impact,” Mr. Cephas added.
The Foundation reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with local and international partners to ensure that these bold national initiatives translate into tangible results for the most vulnerable populations.
