FG Pledges Strong Support for Youth Engagement as NANS Prepares for National Convention

Abuja, 19 May 2026 — The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to constructive youth engagement and the welfare of Nigerian students, following a strategic meeting between the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction and the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, saw NANS President Comrade Olushola Oladoja and his delegation discuss preparations for the upcoming National Students’ Convention. The convention, set to convene student leaders from tertiary institutions across the country, aims to foster leadership dialogue, national cohesion, and discussions on issues affecting students nationwide.

Speaking at the engagement, the Honourable Minister commended NANS for prioritizing dialogue and consultation in addressing student concerns. He emphasized that the Federal Government remains ready to support initiatives that promote youth inclusion, educational advancement, and peaceful participation in national development.
“We appreciate the proactive engagement by the leadership of Nigerian students. Your proposals will be carefully reviewed and processed through the appropriate administrative channels, with feedback communicated as promptly as possible,” the Minister said.

Director Valentine Ezulu of the Ministry’s Social Development Department welcomed the delegation and highlighted the strategic role of students in nation-building. “We are committed to productive collaboration with Nigerian students to ensure the youth of this country have a guaranteed future,” he said.

Comrade Oladoja briefed the Minister on NANS’ recent initiatives and emphasized the association’s guiding principles of consultation, consolidation, communication before confrontation. He also expressed optimism that government support would enhance the success of the forthcoming convention and further strengthen constructive youth participation in governance.

Other officials present at the meeting included Director Janet McDickson Noah of the Information and Public Relations Department, Dr. Abimbola Fesanu, Communications Officer Kingsley Onuoha, among others.
