CIoTA Inducts New Members, Honours AAAU Acting Vice-Chancellor, Advances Sustainable Aviation

The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA), in partnership with the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Abuja, has reinforced its commitment to professional excellence and sustainable aviation development through a landmark induction ceremony and capacity-building workshop.

The event, held on April 28, 2028, at the Festus Keyamo Auditorium, AAAU Permanent Site, convened a distinguished gathering of stakeholders from across Nigeria’s transport and aviation ecosystem under the theme “Sustainable Aviation Development and the Role of Professional Certification.”

Delivering the keynote address, the Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Dr. Danjuma Ismaila Adamu, underscored the need for continuous professional development, strict adherence to regulatory standards, and the adoption of sustainability-driven practices to position Nigeria’s aviation industry for global competitiveness.

Earlier, the President and Chairman of Council of CIoTA, Prince Segun Obayendo, represented by Mazi Philip Okoronkwo, reaffirmed the Institute’s resolve to deepen professional certification and promote ethical standards within the transport sector. He noted that such initiatives are critical to building capacity and strengthening institutional frameworks across the industry.

In his welcome remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of AAAU, Dr. Mustapha Sheikh Abdullahi, highlighted the university’s strategic role as a hub for aviation training, research, and innovation in Africa, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between academia and professional bodies.

A major highlight of the programme was the conferment of the Honorary Fellowship of CIoTA on Dr. Abdullahi in recognition of his contributions to aviation education and leadership. The ceremony also witnessed the formal induction of new members into the Institute, marking a significant step in expanding the body of certified transport professionals in Nigeria.

The event featured interactive panel discussions, goodwill messages, and the presentation of awards to deserving individuals for their contributions to the sector. The Acting Librarian of AAAU, Dr. Dorcas Ibinaye, delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating participants for their active engagement and commitment.

Participants collectively reaffirmed their dedication to fostering innovation, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, and aligning Nigeria’s aviation and transport systems with global best practices, as part of broader efforts to achieve sustainable development across the continent.
