Chidi Nkem Aroma Pledges to Support NCBC, Upscale Nigeria-China Partnership, Local Manufacturing

Chief Chidi Nkem Aroma, a 2027 House of Representatives aspirant for Ikwo-NO Omuma Federal Constituency of Abia State, has advocated stronger Nigeria-China economic cooperation focused on technology transfer, local manufacturing and job creation.
Aroma made the call while speaking at a conference, where he said his participation was aimed at exploring opportunities for collaboration between Nigerian businesses and their Chinese counterparts.
He said Nigeria must move beyond dependence on imported finished products by encouraging the importation of technology that can strengthen local industries.
According to him, stronger institutional partnerships could also facilitate direct air connectivity between Nigeria and China, which would boost trade, investment and people-to-people relations.
“I am looking at a situation where we reduce import and import technology,” Aroma said, stressing the need to develop Nigeria’s cottage industries and create more opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
He explained that attracting Chinese companies to establish production facilities in Nigeria would help transfer technical expertise, create employment and generate revenue for communities and government.
Using Abia State as an example, the politician said he would welcome the establishment of an aluminium fabrication company in Umuahia through a partnership with Chinese investors.
“If I bring a Chinese company to come and help to set up an aluminium fabrication company in Umuahia, that particular company will employ Igbo and Umuahia people. Products will be produced and we will create revenue,” he said.
Aroma maintained that such partnerships would help position Nigerian businesses to produce competitively, expand employment opportunities and contribute more significantly to economic development.
He said the 2027 political contest should also be about presenting practical ideas capable of improving the economic fortunes of constituents and strengthening Nigeria’s productive capacity.
