Nigeria’s diplomatic community converged at the Rotunda of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday as the Permanent Secretary, Amb. Dunoma Umar Ahmed, led tributes at the official launch of Fragments of Time: My Foreign Service Years, a memoir by veteran diplomat Ambassador Eineje Onobu.

Speaking at the well-attended ceremony, Ahmed described the book as a powerful reflection of a lifetime dedicated to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives. He noted that the publication goes beyond a personal narrative, offering deep insights into the complexities of diplomacy and Nigeria’s evolving role in global affairs.
“Today, we gather not only to celebrate a book, but to honour a legacy of professionalism, patriotism, resilience, and integrity,” Ahmed said, commending Onobu for documenting his experiences in the Foreign Service.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the memoir captures “carefully preserved moments” that collectively form a compelling account of service to both nation and humanity. He added that the work would serve as a valuable resource for diplomats, policymakers, scholars, and the general public.

Ahmed emphasized that the book is particularly timely, coming amid shifting geopolitical realities, economic uncertainties, and emerging global challenges. He stressed that diplomacy remains a critical tool for navigating such complexities and safeguarding national interests.

He further described the publication as both a historical record and a guide for younger officers in the Ministry, urging them to uphold the high standards exemplified by Onobu’s career.

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed congratulated the author for what he termed a “remarkable achievement,” expressing confidence that the book would inspire future generations and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s diplomatic scholarship.

The event drew members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, and stakeholders in international relations, underscoring the enduring significance of Nigeria’s foreign service tradition.
