The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), has urged stakeholders to prioritise peace, stability, and pro-growth policies as critical drivers of industrialisation, trade expansion, and decent job creation in Nigeria.
In a statement marking the 2026 International Workers’ Day, the Chamber joined the global community in celebrating Nigerian workers while highlighting the importance of creating an enabling environment for sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.
Speaking on the theme, “Striving for Peace and Stability to Drive Industrialisation, Trade, and Decent Work for Social Justice,” ACCI President, Emeka Obegolu, commended Nigerian workers for their resilience and dedication despite prevailing economic challenges.
He described workers as the backbone of national development, noting that their contributions continue to sustain businesses and drive productivity across sectors.
“Today, we celebrate the hardworking men and women whose efforts sustain our economy and strengthen our nation. Their resilience and determination continue to inspire hope and growth,” Obegolu said.
The ACCI president emphasised that Nigeria’s workforce spans both formal and informal sectors, including artisans, entrepreneurs, and small business operators, all of whom play a vital role in advancing industrialisation and inclusive economic development.
He stressed that achieving the goals of this year’s Workers’ Day theme requires deliberate policies that promote fair wages, safe working conditions, and opportunities for professional growth.
Obegolu also called on governments at all levels to implement pro-worker and pro-business reforms, including reviewing minimum wage structures and ensuring a stable and secure environment for enterprises to thrive.
According to him, productivity can only be sustained where workers are treated with dignity, fairness, and respect, adding that stronger labour relations and effective policy implementation—especially in the informal sector—remain key to bridging economic gaps.
The Chamber further paid tribute to its members and staff for their continued professionalism and contributions to economic development, reaffirming its commitment to fostering partnerships that enhance economic resilience and improve workers’ welfare nationwide.
The statement was signed by Olayemi John-Mensah, Media and Strategy Officer of the Chamber.
