The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has congratulated maritime veteran Elizabeth Aina Egharevba on her 70th birthday, describing her as a pioneer whose legacy continues to shape Nigeria’s port industry.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser, Bolaji Akinola, the minister said Egharevba’s milestone birthday represents a lifetime of distinguished service and groundbreaking achievements in the maritime sector.
Oyetola praised Egharevba’s nearly three decades of service at the Nigerian Ports Authority, highlighting her professionalism, leadership, and influence across the industry. He particularly noted her historic appointment in November 2007 as the first female Executive Director, Marine and Operations—an achievement he said advanced gender inclusion and set a new standard within the sector.
According to the minister, Egharevba’s career was defined not only by personal excellence but also by her role in opening leadership opportunities for women in maritime.
He also recalled her tenure as Port Manager at the RORO Port and later at the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa, where she demonstrated strong administrative capacity and operational expertise.
Oyetola described her legacy as one that transcends individual accomplishments, positioning her as a role model for younger generations, particularly women aspiring to leadership roles in public service and maritime administration.
“As you celebrate this milestone, you should take pride in the enduring legacy you have built and the indelible mark you have left on Nigeria’s maritime landscape,” the minister said.
He wished Egharevba good health and many more years of fulfillment, noting that her contributions remain a defining chapter in the evolution of Nigeria’s maritime industry.q
