Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reinforced his administration’s zero-tolerance for delays and substandard work, following an unscheduled inspection of major projects across the state on Monday, April 14 — despite heavy rainfall.

The surprise tour highlighted the Governor’s insistence on strict timelines, quality delivery, and a merit-driven approach to contract awards, with particular recognition for capable local contractors, including women delivering standout results.

At the Aviation Village — a 15-hectare residential estate built to support personnel ahead of international flight operations at the Victor Attah International Airport — Governor Eno reviewed key infrastructure, including completed housing units, access roads, internal networks, perimeter fencing, and a model primary school. He expressed satisfaction with progress, noting that the delivery of the 100 housing units remains central to the state’s aviation expansion strategy.

During the visit, the Governor commended female contractors executing aspects of the project, applauding their efficiency and workmanship. He directed government agencies to prioritise contractors with proven capacity and performance, underscoring that competence — not sentiment — will determine future engagements.

The inspection moved to the Equipment Leasing and Maintenance Plant, a key driver of the state’s agricultural mechanisation agenda. The facility features tractor sheds, a maintenance workshop, administrative blocks, a fleet of tractors with implements, and transport equipment designed to ease access to modern farming tools and boost productivity.

Governor Eno also assessed the proposed site for the CNG Mass Transit Bus Terminal, a forward-looking transport hub that will incorporate a gas filling station, training facilities, maintenance units, eateries, security presence, and automated services. The project reflects the administration’s commitment to cleaner energy and improved urban mobility.

The tour ended at the Dakkada Luxury Estate, where construction is ongoing on the State Assembly and Executive Council Quarters. The Governor’s physical presence across all sites, even under adverse weather conditions, underscored his hands-on governance style and commitment to accountability.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Aniekan Umanah, said the Governor’s approach signals a shift toward real-time monitoring and results-driven governance.
“This inspection shows clearly that the Governor is not leaving anything to chance. These projects are directly linked to economic growth, job creation, and improved living standards. The directive is clear — deadlines must be met, and only excellence will be rewarded,” he stated.

The inspection underscores a broader governance approach that ties infrastructure delivery to economic impact — from aviation and agriculture to clean transport — ensuring that development is not only planned but executed efficiently and visibly for the benefit of the people.
