Oru Leonard
Director General Nigerian Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade has said that sports organisations evolve through creative thinking, adaptation, and the continuous generation of novel ideas.
Hon Olopade stated this during the one-day sensitisation workshop themed ” Promoting innovation for improved operational efficiency in the National Sports Commission”, at the Media Centre of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, represented by Barry Ndubuisi Odii, director human resource management (HRM).
” As a Commission we bear the responsibility of identifying new and more effective ways to operate, improve performance, and deliver value across the sports ecosystem”, he added.
The DG who commended the initiative of the Reforms Coordination department for organizing this workshop could not hide feeling because, according him it was apt and timely.
“I am very happy that the National Sports Commission has firmly key in and aligned to the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR targeted to making Sports one of the key drivers off the Economy in addition to its social impact in line to the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE) framework well structured by the Commission’s leadership which aims to reset, refocus and relaunch”, he stated.
Olopade emphasized that globally, Sports organisations have embraced various strategies for innovation, transforming how we play, view, and manage Sports.
” In a fast-developing economy like ours, these strategies have the potential to radically reshape the structure and impact of the sports sector. Through strategic thinking, innovation, and effective management, modern sports are being redefined and improved”, he stressed.
He observed that despite those global trends, limited scholarly attention has been given to the role of strategic management and innovation in sports- particularly within the African context.
However, he noted that today’s presentation has demonstrated that innovation and its strategic management are critical not just for athletic performance, but for the overall success and sustainability of the various teams and institutions.
The DG further observed that emerging research has shown that sports innovation can serve as a powerful tool to tackle some of the most pressing challenges in the field, such as social exclusion, revenue generation, talent development, and the integration of high-tech solutions when effectively applied.
“Innovation enhances comprehensive efficiency, strengthens competitiveness, and fosters inclusive growth”, he noted
He therefore recommended further innovative research with a well sustained implementation that will revolutionise sports. He told the staff that “you are not just participants in this this sensitization workshop, but key drivers of transformation that the Commission needs particular, and Nigeria in general”,he admonished.
Speaking earlier in his welcome remarks, the deputy director overseeing the office of Director (RC&SI), Abdullahi Ibrahim said the workshop was organized to focus attention on innovation and strategic management within sports science and sports administration, which aligns with the desires of the present management of the Sports Commission.
He charged the participants to ensure that they take advantage of the workshop to acquire innovative skills that will bring to bear on the daily schedules.
The facilatator, Dr. John M.Olusola a former director Civil Service Transformation (OHCSF), said the workshop is important as it speaks to the forth pillar of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan(FCSSIP: 2021-2025).
He said innovation drives reforms and therefore participants must ensure they factor innovation into their operational system. Dr Olusola emphasized that for sports to fully develop, they must strive to bring new ideas to improve on their services.
