64TH INDEPENDENCE DAY: APC-IGG, Congratulates President Tinubu, Nigerians

Today, October 1st, marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s history – 64 years of independence from colonial rule. The National President of APC-IGG, Amb. Musa Muhammed Tsoken, has extended heartfelt felicitations to the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, all party members and the Nigerian nation, reflecting on the journey and progress made.

Nigeria gained independence from British rule on October 1, 1960, with the British Union Jack being lowered and replaced by the nation’s Green-white-green flag ¹. The country adopted a federal system with an elected prime minister and a ceremonial head of state.

 

As Nigerians celebrate this momentous occasion, they honor the vision and sacrifices of their founding fathers who fought tirelessly for freedom. Their legacy inspires a united, prosperous, and just society.

The Federal Government has declared October 1st a public holiday to commemorate the nation’s 64th Independence Day Anniversary ². Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen Dr George Akume, inaugurated an Interministerial Committee to oversee the commemoration [5).

As Nigerians celebrate, they are encouraged to:

– Reflect on individual and collective roles in nation-building.
– Renew their pledge to Nigeria’s unity and progress.
