World Archery Appoints Nigeria’s Mohammed Abdullahi to Commonwealth Games Committee

Abuja, June 15, 2026 – World Archery has announced the appointment of five new members to its Commonwealth Games Committee, with Nigeria’s Mohammed Baba Abdullahi among those selected to help shape the future of archery within the Commonwealth sporting movement.

The appointments were confirmed in an official communication dated May 15, 2026, from World Archery Secretary General, Raul Calin, acting on behalf of the federation’s Executive Board.

Mohammed Abdullahi, who serves as President of the Nigeria Archery Federation and Deputy Secretary-General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, was named as one of the five committee members selected to represent different continents.

The newly constituted committee comprises:
Mohammed Baba Abdullahi (Nigeria)
Karl Balisch (Canada)
Trina Roberts
Ainsley Ward (Scotland)
Virendra Sachdeva (India)
World Archery also confirmed that Juan Carlos Holgado will continue serving as the federation’s official liaison staff member to the committee.

In the letter addressed to Committee Chair Robert Fiddyment, Calin expressed confidence in the new members, stating that the federation looks forward to their contributions to the committee’s activities.

The appointments come at a pivotal period for the sport as World Archery intensifies efforts to secure and strengthen archery’s presence in future Commonwealth Games programmes. The newly appointed members are expected to provide strategic guidance, technical expertise and governance support aimed at advancing the sport across the Commonwealth.

According to Tony Nezianya, the Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Mohammed Abdullahi’s appointment is seen as a significant recognition of Nigeria’s growing influence in international sports administration and a boost for the development of archery both in Nigeria and across Africa.
