The University of Calabar Theatre Arts Alumni Association (UCTAAA) has urged its members to celebrate their shared heritage, strengthen existing bonds and embrace opportunities to advance the association’s legacy.
The call was made during the unveiling of the theme for its 2026 reunion, “Celebrating Our Journey, Advancing Our Legacy,” held in Lagos as part of the association’s EKO 2026 reunion.
Speaking at the gathering, the presiding Board Chairperson of the reunion, Dr. Mrs. Ndidi Rita Anuchienwa, encouraged members to reflect on the association’s journey and recognise the contributions of women who have continued to distinguish themselves across various fields of endeavour.
She noted that UCTAAA members had demonstrated creativity, resilience and leadership over the years, adding that the association’s legacy should not be measured solely by its past achievements but also by the future its members collectively seek to build.
Anuchienwa expressed appreciation to the Global President, Global Vice President, other dignitaries seated at the high table and members who attended the reunion.
She also welcomed participants to Lagos for the EKO 2026 celebration, urging them to use the occasion to celebrate their shared history, strengthen relationships and renew their commitment to the association’s growth.
The chairperson further called on members to give glory to Almighty God for His faithfulness and preservation over the years.
As part of the ceremony, she observed a minute of silence in honour of deceased members, acknowledging their contributions to the association and their lasting place in the hearts of colleagues and friends.
In a related remark, the reunion’s Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairperson reflected on the loss of several members over the years, disclosing that her set alone had lost more than 10 colleagues who would have loved to participate in the gathering.
She explained that the joy, dancing and celebrations at the reunion went beyond ordinary expressions of happiness, describing them as demonstrations of gratitude to God for preserving the lives of members who were still alive.
According to her, the reunion offered an opportunity for members to celebrate life, remember departed colleagues and appreciate the grace that had sustained them through the years.
The EKO 2026 reunion therefore provides a platform for celebrating shared history, enduring friendships and collective achievements while reinforcing UCTAAA’s commitment to strengthening its legacy and creating greater opportunities for members, particularly women.
The gathering also highlighted the importance of unity, remembrance, gratitude and purposeful leadership in sustaining the association and ensuring that its heritage continues to inspire future generations.
