Transportation Minister’s CSO Interred Amid Tears

The late Chief Security Officer to the Hon. Minister of Transportation, Anthony Iwelu was interred today amid tears in his hometown Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Speaking at the funeral, the Hon. Minister, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi eulogized his late CSO as a dedicated officer who has been with him dating back to his second tenure as the Executive Governor of Rivers right until that unfortunate accident that took his life on the 17th February in Kaduna.

He called on friends to support the family by making donations which would help see the young children he left behind through school.

The burial was preceded by a vigil mass at St Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Ogwashi-Uku.

Delivering the homily, the officiating priest described the deceased as an intelligent officer who carried out his duties diligently which reflected in his working with his principal for a span of 17 years. He also described him as a man who in spite of the demands of his official duties remained a dedicated family man and a devout Christian.

He used the opportunity to call on all present to prepare for their own deaths as no one knows when and where it will be.

He also urged the wife and all present to be comforted by the assurance that Jesus has gone to prepare a better place for all believers.

Also speaking, the Director, State Security Services, Delta State, Mr. Adebiyi Ademola appreciated the services of Anthony Iwelu to the nation and prayed the family to find the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Other personalities who accompanied the Minister during this moment of grief included: his wife, Dame Judith Amaechi, the newly appointed Director General, Nigeria Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh, Executive Director (Cabotage), NIMASA, Victor Ochei, the Former Director General, NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, Managing Director, Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Engr. Fidet Okhiria, the Director General, Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr. Osita Okechukwu, former Senators, Binta Garba and Ifeanyi Araruame.

Also in attendance were the Managing Director, Nigerian Inland Waterways, Mr. George Moghalu and Executive Director (Administration and Finance), NIMASA, Chudi Offordile and the Honourable Minister of State for Transportation who was represented by her Senior Special Assistant, Hon. Bamu Hassan.
