President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination, already forwarded to the National Assembly, follows the resignation of former minister Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.

Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, brings over three decades of experience in fiscal management and economic reforms across both public and private sectors.

He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in governance reform, institutional transformation, and fiscal policy development.

Currently, he is the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, a role that involves deepening development cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China, as well as coordinating strategic engagements aligned with the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Tegbe’s track record also includes key engagements in Nigeria’s power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reforms involving agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.

The presidency noted that his nomination is expected to bolster ongoing reforms in the electricity sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investments in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the President expects Tegbe, if confirmed, to leverage his extensive expertise to drive critical reforms and deliver improved power outcomes for Nigerians.
