The Parliament Diary to Host 6th Lecture Series, Award Ceremony at National Assembly on June 29

ABUJA — The National Assembly Complex in Abuja will play host to prominent political leaders, diplomats, legislators, traditional rulers and professionals on Monday, June 29, 2026, as The Parliament Diary Newspaper stages the sixth edition of its annual Lecture Series and Award Ceremony.
The event, themed “Steering the Ship: Building a Resilient Nigeria,” is expected to provide a platform for robust discussions on governance, legislative leadership, economic reforms and nation-building, while recognising outstanding individuals and institutions for their contributions to national development.
The lecture and awards ceremony will be chaired by Ossai Nicholas Ossai, former Chairman of the House Committee on Protocols, Treaties and Agreements, while the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, will serve as Chief Guest of Honour.
Other dignitaries expected at the event include Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State; Barau Jibrin, Deputy President of the Senate; Olayide Adelami; AbdulAziz Abubakar Yari; Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe; and Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.
Also expected are Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning Doris Uzoka-Anite, as well as leading figures from the public and private sectors.
The keynote address will be delivered by Oyadiran Phillip Adeyinka, who is expected to examine the role of legislative leadership, fiscal discipline and institutional reforms in strengthening Nigeria’s resilience amid economic and security challenges.
A major highlight of the programme will be the presentation of awards to distinguished Nigerians in recognition of excellence in governance, public service, diplomacy, legislative performance, humanitarian work and professional achievements.
Among the recipients are Senator Barau Jibrin, who will receive the Outstanding Legislator of the Year Award; Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who will be honoured with the Outstanding Governor of the Year Award for Governance and Development; Minister Wike, who will receive the Outstanding Politician of the Year Award; and Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who will be presented with the Grand Ambassador of Nigerian Diplomacy Award.
Other awardees include Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Doris Uzoka-Anite, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, Senator AbdulAziz Abubakar Yari, Hon. Oforji Oboku, Hon. Julius Pondi, Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro and several leaders from academia, civil society, traditional institutions and the private sector.
According to the management of The Parliament Diary Newspaper, the lecture series is intended to go beyond recognition and serve as a forum for advancing conversations on national development and institutional strengthening.
The organisers noted that the theme reflects the need for leaders across all sectors to work collectively towards building resilient institutions capable of addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic and governance challenges.
The event is expected to attract senators, members of the House of Representatives, governors, ministers, diplomats, traditional rulers, business leaders and civil society stakeholders, making it one of the major policy and legislative gatherings in Abuja this year.
