TDF Hails Tinubu for Prioritising Governance Over Campaign Activities

The Democratic Front (TDF) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for choosing to prioritise governance and official responsibilities over attending every campaign rally ahead of the January 2027 presidential election.

The group described the decision as a commendable demonstration of leadership, personal sacrifice and commitment to national development, noting that it would help ensure that government activities continue without unnecessary distractions.

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, TDF said the President’s decision reflected his administration’s commitment to placing national interests above partisan political considerations.

According to the group, Tinubu’s action reinforces the principle behind the administration’s Nigeria First policy, which was launched on May 5, 2025, following approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

TDF maintained that the President’s decision also demonstrated his determination to protect the gains of ongoing economic reforms at a critical stage in the country’s economic development.

The group criticised opposition figures who have questioned the President’s approach, describing such criticism as unpatriotic and politically motivated.

It specifically faulted African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar for criticising Tinubu’s decision to place official responsibilities ahead of campaign appearances.

TDF argued that a leader genuinely concerned about the welfare of citizens must be prepared to make difficult choices in the interest of the country, adding that Tinubu’s approach could set a positive precedent for Nigeria’s democratic culture.

The organisation further stated that the President’s decision suggested confidence in the capacity of his campaign team to present his administration’s achievements to Nigerians without requiring his physical presence at every political gathering.

The group cited what it described as the administration’s efforts to stabilise the economy, address insecurity and introduce student loan opportunities for financially disadvantaged students seeking tertiary education.

It also highlighted government initiatives in healthcare, particularly efforts to improve local treatment options for kidney-related ailments and cancer, alongside investments in agriculture aimed at improving food availability and moderating market prices.

TDF further pointed to measures to strengthen public revenue generation and national productivity as part of the administration’s record, arguing that these policies and programmes would form important elements of the President’s re-election campaign.

The group maintained that Tinubu should be able to rely on his administration’s record in seeking a renewed mandate rather than personally attending every campaign rally.

It added that opposition candidates would be mistaken to interpret the President’s decision to concentrate on governance as a political weakness or an opportunity to gain an electoral advantage.

TDF concluded that prioritising the responsibilities of government over extensive campaign appearances was a demonstration of leadership that deserved recognition, particularly at a time when maintaining economic stability and sustaining ongoing reforms remained important national concerns.
